Alkaline phosphatase, tissue-nonspecific isozyme (TNAP) is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the ALPL gene. Its chemical formula is:C2916H4587O1110N707S19P2.
TNAP catalyses the breakdown of pyrophosphate (an extracellular inhibitor of hydroxyapatite precipitation). It is secreted into the osteoid by osteoblasts to allow bone mineralization to take place.
