On July 30, 2019, in Southaven, Mississippi, 39-year-old Martez Terrell Abram, a Walmart employee who was suspended from his job, fatally shot two of his co-workers, Anthony Brown and Brandon Gale, and wounded a police officer in a subsequent gunfight at the Walmart before he was arrested. Abram was said to be angered over his suspension for showing a knife to a fellow Walmart employee, which reportedly drove him to commit the shootings. Abram was found guilty of two counts of capital murder and one count of attempted murder, and sentenced to death in December 2022.
