The game was played on April 2, 2017, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, and was contested between the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the South Carolina Gamecocks, both of which are from the Southeastern Conference (SEC). South Carolina defeated Mississippi State, 67–55, to claim their first-ever national championship.
