2009 in organized crime

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime estimated that in 2009 transnational organized crime generated $870 billion in income. Although it is difficult to quantity the exact amount, the United States suffered the greatest loss. In addition to financial damages, the victims suffered irreparable physical or emotional harm, particularly those involved with sex trafficking and immigration schemes.
